ARTISPHERE ANOUNCES 2010 VISUAL ARTISTS

Expands Artist Row from 100 to 120

[Greenville, SC] Due to the explosive increase in the number and quality of visual artist applicants for this year’s Artisphere, the Festival has expanded Artist Row by 20 percent from 100 to 120 artists. A list of the 120 participating artists is online at www.artisphere.us.

Now in its sixth year, Artisphere’s pool of applicants has grown by almost 250% from 282 in 2006 to 682 in 2010. Of the 79 artists who applied from South Carolina, 34 are from Greenville. Of those, 14 were juried into the 2010 Festival - a 41 percent acceptance rate — and the largest number of local artists to participate in the Festival to date.

"Artisphere provides an ideal opportunity for highlighting Greenville's outstanding community of visual and performing artists" said Alan Ethridge, Metropolitan Arts Council Executive Director. "All of us at MAC are very pleased to see more Greenville-based visual artists participating in the 2010 event. Additionally, performances at the Peace Center Amphitheatre will again give Festival goers the chance to become more familiar with our fantastic array of resident performing arts organizations."

Participating artists from the Greenville area include Kent Ambler, Angelique Brickner, Timothy Cassell, Patricia Crandall, Daniel Cvammen, Janina Ellis, Lynn Greer, Marie Gruber, Michael McDunn, Danielle Miller-Gilliam, Ron Ponce, Guy Stevens, Llyn Strong, and Judy Verhoeven.

Artists will exhibit works in 17 different media categories including Ceramics, Drawing, Fiber, Furniture, Glass, Jewelry, Metalworks, 2D and 3D Mixed Media, Oil and Acrylic Painting, Watercolor Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Woodwork. All 120 participating artists and their work can be seen on Artisphere's website at www.artisphere.us.

A full lineup of performing artists will be posted on the website by early March.

Artisphere is presented by Carolina First. For more information visit www.artisphere.us.
