Artisphere Announces Artists of the Upstate Exhibition
April 3 – May 29, 2009

Greenville, SC: For the second year, Artisphere is proud to partner with the Metropolitan Arts Council, Centre Stage, and the Greenville County Museum of Art in presenting the Artists of the Upstate exhibition. Presented annually in conjunction with Artisphere, thisannual juried show, open to artists living within a 35 mile radius of Greenville, seeks to recognize the outstanding quality and diversity of work being generated by artists of the Upstate region of South Carolina.  MAC Executive Director Alan Ethridge remarks, “It is very important that the work of visual artists living and working in Greenville is highlighted during Artisphere, and the Artists of the Upstate exhibition is an ideal platform to showcase the talent and distinctiveness of the artists who add so much to the vitality of the Upstate.”

Registration of entries will take place on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 10:00am – 6:00pm at the Metropolitan Arts Council, 16 Augusta Street. Entries must be original works of art that have been completed within the last three years. Entries in all media categories will be accepted provided that they are equipped with appropriate hardware for wall hanging. Projected awards for the 2nd Annual Artists of the Upstateexhibition equal $3,500 to be distributed for Best In Show, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, and a Merit Award.  Award winners will be announced at the opening reception on Wednesday, April 8 from 6:30 – 9:00pm at Centre Stage. The juried exhibition will be on display April 3 – May 29, 2009.

The 2009 Artists of the Upstate exhibition will be juried by Janiece Meek, Independent Communications Consultant, and Founder, Publisher and Editor of the Critical Review, a monthly arts publication, and Co-Founder/Co-Owner of Marie-Terrell Gallery in Asheville, NC. Meek was selected to jury the exhibition because of her diverse background in the arts which includes owning a fine art gallery, founding and publishing a monthly art review journal, The Critical Review, and working with HandMade In America as Communications Director.

Artisphere’s Board Chairman, Brad Campbell states that, “The Artists of the Upstate exhibition is a major component of Artisphere. This unique juried exhibition showcases the quality of the visual artists living and working in our community and it is an integral part of Artisphere’s vision. It is an outstanding collaboration between the Metropolitan Arts Council, Centre Stage, the Greenville County Museum of Art, and Artisphere.”
