Artisphere Plans 4th Year of Festival

Award winning arts festival names new Executive Director and Program Director.

Greenville, SC – Artisphere, the International Arts Festival of Greenville, appointed Kerry Murphy as the event’s new Executive Director and promoted former Visual Arts Manager, Liz Rundorff to Program Director for the 2008 festival to be held downtown April 18-20.

The festival, originated in 2005, attracted 75,000 patrons in 2007, up from 45,000 in 2006, and was recognized as one of the “Top Twenty Events” in the Southeast by Southeast Tourism Society. Board Chairman, Ben Rook, Design Strategies, comments that “the new directors are both seasoned in their respective areas and we feel comfortable that they [Murphy and Rundorff] will execute the board’s vision for the festival which is to expose the community to a wide array of arts venues at both a local and national level thereby creating an atmosphere that assists the economic development initiatives in our community.”

Murphy was most recently employed as the Executive Director of Carolina Ballet Theatre. During her tenure the company experienced record ticket sales and increased community awareness. Also a former employee of the BI-LO Center and Greenville Events (now Main Street Events) Murphy brings both special event experience and a fresh perspective to the festival for its 4th year.

Rundorff has been with Artisphere since the 2006 festival and is herself an artist. Working diligently for the past 4 months with a panel of jurors, Rundorff coordinated the selection of this year’s 100 artists out of a field of 427 applicants, up from 294 applicants in 2006.

“Every year the board challenges itself to make the festival better than the last” commented Board Vice Chairman, Brad Campbell, Cherry Bekaert & Holland. “If we continue to raise the bar for ourselves, this festival will put Greenville on the map as a ‘cultural destination’.”
